Have you ever tried those dating apps before? My guess is yes. Because so many people are zombie-eyed to their phone and obsessed with swiping someone's face.
Have I ever tried a dating app before? Why yes. Yes I have. And that's why this post is happening.
You could say I was a late bloomer to certain aspects of technology. I don't use it to it's full extent, because frankly my dear, I don't give a d#*$@. I watched Gone with the Wind with my sister...well part of it. I was having difficulties. And that's partly my point with these apps and how we have changed with technology! We get boooored sooooo eeeeeasily. So I added a dating app. In this one the girl has to talk to the guy first in order for there to be a conversation at all. That right there irked me a little...so why are these guys on here?
Thoughts:
-They want to be pursued
-They aren't good at talking to girls first
-Confidence issues (not confident or overly confident)
-They just don't really care that much
For some reason I could only think of negative reasons...
But hey, I thought I would try it out anyway.
My friend actually had the PERFECT start to the conversations.
A gif of Jimmy Fallon holding hay with a horse and saying, Heyyyyy, and then throwing it to the side. Look it up friends. It's gold.
Every guy got that gif and at first I felt like I was cheating (not cheating on them, just the app), and I swear I could have let out a maniacal laugh because I knew I was sending it to all of them, but they did not know that!
The conversations started to flow. But guess what. I would get matches and then think, "Well, he was kind of cute, but I kind of don't know why I swiped for him." The thought that I could do better...but it's almost like it was never ending. Because it was ONLY based on looks! I didn't know them at all! Even from the conversations I was having.
"One does not know a man's character from photos, even if such a man does not post bathroom mirror selfies. For those I am passionately against." (That is my own original quote and should be read/spoken in a British accent.)
Conversational problems:
-They talk to you a ton but never ask you out (why hasn't he asked me out yet!?)
-They barely talk to you and ask you out right away (ummmm, I don't know you...)
-They never ask you questions back so it just dies (unmatch please!)
But then from those problems came the questions with the "Girls have to talk to the guys first" dating app:
Am I supposed to ask them out or do they still ask me out?
I mean if I have to talk to them first, does that mean I ask them out? I know there aren't any stated rules, but this might be what the guys want and why they are on this app!
Fast forward to the only date I went on with this app. He was actually pretty normal. A little awkward, but that could have been because he got divorced 15 months ago and has a kid and he is just getting back in the dating game. That's rough. But it was fun. (Even if I beat him in racquetball badly enough that we decided not to keep score.) So, not interested.
And then I deleted the app.
Then I found myself in this unhealthy carousel of adding it back, talking to guys, not getting any dates (even when I would ask guys out on dates), deleting the app, adding it back...you get the picture.
Guys, before that date from the dating app, it had been a reeeeally long time since I had gone on a date. So I guess that was one plus.
But the dating app gives you superficial expectations for people's looks or other people's looks for you.
If you think like a human being, I would suggest you don't download any dating apps. And if you have them, I suggest you delete them.
If you don't think human thoughts and don't have emotions as a result of those thoughts similar to the phone that you are slowly becoming, then by all means!
And hey, I get it, there are success stories...but those are the exception, not the rule. Personally, I don't want that to become the rule because then eventually the stories of two people's eyes locking from across the room will become myths. *No I do not expect relationships to be like chick-flicks. That was a joke. Ha. Ha.
Let's learn to talk to each other face to face! Please call girls and ask them out on dates, they will L-O-V-E it. All you have to be is interested in getting to know her, not interested in dating her.
So I still haven't gone on many dates, which actually doesn't bother me because I tend to keep myself very busy, but it's good practice to go out on dates....so stay tuned for the next post. If similar to me in that aspect, there's a solution that you've probably already thought of and might even be doing. 😏
